Former Congressman Andy Jacobs at Hamilton County Club

January 23rd, 2006 6:18 am

This came from the Hamilton County Club.

Dear Hamilton County Democratic Club Members and Friends,

This month is a very special month for the Hamilton County Democratic Club.
We will host a talk by Congressman Andy Jacobs, one of Indiana’s most
effective and beloved Democrats.

Congressman Jacobs represented Indiana districts 10 and 11 for fifteen
terms. Currently, he lectures on the state and national level regarding
issues that touch middle America and its abuse by the unscrupulous and
uninformed. Andy is currently an IUPUI adjunct professor of political
science, teaching courses on American politics and the US Congress. Few have
Mr Jacob’s breadth of knowledge and insight into these Institutions

Signed copies of Andy’s latest book, _The 1600 Killers_, will be available
by lottery to 20 lucky loyal Democrats.

Please do join us on January 25, 6:30PM, at the Fox and Hound restaurant
located just south of Lowes, at the intersection of 146th Street and
Greyhound Pass in Carmel (from the 31, turn east on Greyhound Pass).

Best wishes to all.

Sincerely,
Jason M. Kelly
President, Hamilton County Democratic Club

Decatur Township
MESSAGE FOR WEEKLY DEMOCRAT E-MAIL NETWORK
Contrary to the realities of most townships in Marion Co., Decatur has relatively few minorities. But our demographics are changing, largely due to an increasing influx of young families attracted to township schools and affordable housing.

It is a challenge to Decatur Democrats to seek out African American and Latino households, especially, to enlist them into our political party and to integrate them into the mainstream of enlightened and dedicated voters.

Toward that goal, our precinct committee persons are diligently greeting the newcomers and helping them to become registered for the ‘06 elections, crucial to the inclusive Democrat cause both locally and nationally.

We are attempting in Decatur Twp to form a viable coalition of Democrats, representing labor unionists, minorities, youth, retirees and the rank and file mainstream of our residents to “turn the tide” in future local, state and national elections.

We have many new residential subdivisions as our township experiences growth. From all outward appearances, minority households are being welcomed. It is up to the Democrats to make them a vital part of our future.

JUNE CLUB MEETING: Elmer Blankenship, president of the Alliance for Retired Americans, will speak on Social Security issues at the Monday, June 13, meeting of the Decatur Twp. Democrat Club.

We meet at the beautiful Buffer Park Golf Course Clubhouse, 3825 S. Foltz St. A pitch-in supper begins at 5:45 p.m., followed by the meeting about 6:30 p.m. All are welcomed. Membership is $3 (but about to increase - maybe!).

In addition to Mr. Blankenship, we will also hear briefly from Karen Celestino Horseman about the potential recruitment of area Latinos and their future involvement in political affairs of our community.

If you have more time and your golf clubs are in the car, come early and play nine holes on the attractive Buffer Park course before supper and meeting. (There is also a putting green adjacent to the clubhouse if you have less time! What other township club offers these “amenities”?)

Better Late Than Never edition

Message from our Chairman Ed Treacy:
This quote is from Grover Norquist, the President of Americans for Tax Reform. I send this quote to remind good Democrats of what the other side thinks of us. People need to know what Norquist and people like him are saying!

Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform and a leading figure in both the DeLay and Bush political operations, chose more colorful post election language to describe the future. “Once the minority of House and Senate are comfortable in their minority status, they will have no problem socializing with the Republicans,” he told Richard Leiby of The Washington Post. “Any farmer will tell you that certain animals run around and are unpleasant. But when they’ve been ‘fixed,’ then they are happy and sedate. They are contented and cheerful.”
